Rental Kitchen Gardener

I’m Melanie, and I’m turning the garden of our rental home into a productive kitchen garden — one bed, pot, grow bag and greenhouse at a time.

I’m not gardening on a huge country property. I rent. The garden isn’t perfect. There are weeds, awkward spaces, changing sunlight and plenty of things I’m still figuring out.

But that’s exactly the point.

You don’t need to own your home to grow your own food.

From potatoes in grow bags and herbs on a windowsill to vegetables in raised beds, flowers for pollinators and whatever I can squeeze into the greenhouse, I’m documenting the process as I go.

You don’t need a perfect garden, a huge budget or a house you own.

You just need somewhere to put a pot.
